Why You Should Keep a Travel Diary

Like a fine South African wine, a travel diary also gets better with age.

When travelling, I like to make a daily habit of writing a travel diary, while enjoying my morning coffee.   Some days, it can feel like a burden, and some days I don't even feel like writing a word, often due to writer's block, lack of inspi.jpgration or just simple laziness.

Pictured left are a few of my travel diaries – one that I kept during some travels in North America in 1995, and the others are from the past 5 to 8 years. Today, they are among my most prized possessions.

Your travel diary is a window to your past, recording many more details than your memory possibly can. Reviewing an old one can remind you of precious memories, places, experiences, and people you might not otherwise remember.

When I’m bored, I enjoy spending an evening reviewing an old travel diary. It brings a smile to my face, and serves as a reminder of the countless reasons I love to travel.
