Now is the prime season for one of nature´s great displays, but you probably have to travel a ways to see it. The aurora borealis, aka the Northern Lights, is best seen at northern latitudes. So pack your warm winter clothing and visit Alaska or Canada.

Several tour companies and resorts specialize in showing you the lights in comfort. The University of Alaska Fairbanks even provide you with an Aurora Forecast. The city of Yellowknife, Canada, claims to be the best location in the world for seeing the lights. The city can get extremely cold, minus 40, but still thousands of aurora watchers come every season.
