Rickhouse: San Francisco’s House of Bourbon

Dedication is an admirable quality, and one that bars often exude in theme and focus.  Wine bars… beer bars… cocktail bars.  But Rickhouse in San Francisco takes its dedication one step further, and is literally made of bourbon.  Every surface, from the walls to the ceiling to the back of the bar is covered in bourbon staves, giving the venue a bourbon-hued color and a bourbon-tinged scent.  Even the light fixtures are bourbon-centric, constructed from old barrel hoops, and bourbon bottles line the walls to complete the scene.

Rickhouse was introduced in 2009 by the guys behind another renowned San Francisco bar, Bourbon and Branch.  The bar is more than just bourbon, however, with an impressive array of beers, wines and spirits to round out the selection.  The talented bartenders craft cocktails with care and mix up classics as well as innovative signature drinks. The Pisco Punch comes in a bowl large enough to serve four, and the Cherry Blossom Cobbler mixes Japanese whiskey with cherry blossom jam and lemon juice.

Rickhouse is aptly named for the warehouses where bourbon is stored for aging, which are common fixtures throughout Bourbon County, Kentucky.  Trading the green hills of Kentucky for the busy streets of San Francisco, Rickhouse has become a favorite watering hole for the city’s Financial District crowd.
