Hi there!
WOW! How refreshing to see a SA travel website with such decent content!
So I live in the UK and haven’t seen my Ma and my Pa for over three years now. Maybe go to SA for Christmas 2007 but the plan is soon spoiled by airfares of £1050-1150 (R16k-18k) from Virgin, BA and the like… Having a bit of sad moment, my pal comes up with the clever idea of hiring a plane ourselves, filling it with likeminded people going to SA at the end of Dec and coming back early in Jan. The plane can return to the UK in Dec after dropping us off with a load of SA tannies, ooms, ma’s, pa’s and even that cousin from Boksburg… They will then be passed back to SA early Jan when we from the UK have spent all our pounds and have to return to the mines.
My question is: what are the finer points about hiring one of these planes – large one: Airbus/ Boeing? Has anyone done this before? Any lessons/ tips that can be passed on?
Looking forward to your reply: I can offer 2 double bedrooms in my house in Oxford in December to anyone who gives me an answer that leads me to fake snow and my folks Christmas braai!

Jetblue’s been experiencing the blues over the last week – being grounded by snowstorms (to their credit though I think they are an outstanding airline).
Nationwide no longer offers free food on local flights – in my mind it’s now a low-cost airline, bringing South Africa’s low-cost airlines to 3 (Mango, Kulula & Nationwide).
