Bring a Carry-on — International Travel Tip
In many cases, luggage is lost for people who have a long haul flight with multiple stopovers in larger cities. If you have a layover at a major airport like the ones in London or New York City, you want to bring a carry-on bag with essential items like a fresh change of clothes, medications and toiletries. During my travels around the world, my luggage has only been lost one time. It was during my very first trip to London — a 7 day trip departing from New York.
When I used to travel all the time, I always hated having to manage a lot of “stuff” on an airplane. So instead of opting to travel like a smart traveler with a carry-on — I only checked baggage at the airport. For my trip to London, I brought my oversized Delsey hardside suitcase, which had everything I needed for my journey — literally. In fact, I probably had enough clothing to stay an additional week or two in the UK! By the time I arrived in London at 7 am, I could not find my luggage in baggage claim. I was informed by airport personnel that my luggage was lost, and someone would deliver it to my hotel when it was located. I went through the process of filling out the lost luggage form with all of my details, and continued on my merry way to the hotel.
Unfortunately, my suitcase did not make it to my hotel until the following morning. When you are visiting a new city, it is no fun spending time tracking down toiletries, clothing and other important items when you arrive via an international flight. Learn from my mistake, and always pack a carry-on bag with your essential items!
