Bear In Mind…
Grouse Mountain in Vancouver, Canada, is one of the cities busiest attractions in both the winter and summer.
One of the more popular attractions atop the mountain, is the Refuge for Endangered Wildlife, a research, education, and conservation centre.
For many years, it has been home for two male Grizzly bears, named Grinder and Coola. (In the left photo, Coola is the one in the water.) The two orphaned bears were both found in 2001, and have resided at Grouse Mountain in a protected area ever since.
The two bears apparently have very different personalities, but get along quite well most of the time. They hibernate
between 3-4 months a year, each winter. Both weigh more than 320 kgs in the summer, and can run almost 50 km/h. (they lose considerable weight in the winter, during hibernation)
While I was there, Grinder decided to stand on his two legs and take a closer look at me and the other visitors standing on the bridge above. He's apparently quite curious about people who look into his enclosed acreage. The two bears have an enclosed area of several acres in which they reside.
The mountain, which overlooks the city of Vancouver and provides spectacular views on a clear day or evening, features countless activities to take in on a trip.
If you visit Vancouver anytime soon, be sure to plan a trip to see Grinder and Coola, Vancouver's most popular Grizzly Bears.
