Udaipur!

That's right. Udaipur in India was just voted the World's Best City, in an annual survey conducted by the popular Travel + Leisure Magazine. The survey was conducted on their web-site, with visitors allowed to vote one time only.

Udaipur is a relatively small city by India's standards, with about 500,000 people living there. It's in Rajastan, and is well known for its beautiful palaces and canals. It is also often called the Venice of the East.

Rounding out the top 10 list of best cities included Cape Town; Bangkok; Buenos Aires; Chiang Mai, Thailand; Florence, Italy; Luang Prabang, Laos; New York; Rome and San Francisco.

Also recognized was the Bushmans Kloof Cedar Mountains in South Africa, as best hotel.

  1. Must admit, I had never heard of Upaidur but it does look nice. Well done to the other cities too.

  2. Yes well done! In particular to Cape Town & our very own Bushmans Kloof Retreat in Cederberg Mountains.
    Can’t wait for 2010!
