A new iPod is here
The latest portable music player in Apple´s popular line is a touch-screen iPod. The new device was unveiled by the Apple boss Steve Jobs during a press conference. He also showed off revamped versions of all the other models. The overhaul comes just in time for the key US holiday season when Apple usually sees an upturn in sales of the iPods.
But the star of the announcements was the iPod touch. Its owners will be able to use the built-in Safari browser to surf the web or buy music via the onboard wi-fi iTunes store. Apple has made a deal with Starbucks that let people use the wi-fi iTunes store for free while they sit down on one of the company´s cafes.
The new iPod comes in two versions, 8 or 16 gigabytes, and the smaller one will cost $299 in the US and the larger one $399. It will be in stores by the end of september.
Apple also announces that they will start to sell ringtones for iPhone owners and that the price of the iPhone, with 8 gigabyte, is being cut by $200 while the 4 gigabyte is being dropped.
