I stayed at a farm house B&B in Ireland between Lisdoonvarna and Doolin and as I was sitting in the tea room contemplating where I would drive to get dinner when an American walked by and invited me to tag along to Lisdoonvarna – as there was some event taking place in town.

We stopped at one of the many pubs for dinner and ordered the special. The plate was huge and completely filled with food – and it only cost 10 euros! After dinner we looked for the Miss Lisdoonvarna crowning event, but instead stumbled upon something much more interesting…

The entrance fee was 15 euros for this event, but the guy at the door let us in for free – as we were foreigners! We didn’t quite know what the event was, but once inside it became abundantly clear…

The people were dancing and swoppi.jpgng dance partners after every song. Then the American told me that he suspects that we had stumbled upon what this city is known for – a matchmaking event!
