In the town of Shilin in southwest China, exists a forest made of stones. The oddity is called the Shilin Stone Forest,  an area that's popular with both domestic and international visitors.

It's believed by many that the forest is close to 270 million years old, with the rocks growing out of the earth resembling stalagmites. Because of this,
the stones look just like trees, creating an illusion that this is a forest made of stones.

Shilin2 The area has been divided into several areas for the visitor to explore, including the Lesser Stone Forest, the Outer Stone Forest, The Greater Stone
Forest, Underground Stone Forest, Stone Forest Lake, and Da Dieshui Falls.

People often visit the forest by travelling from the large nearby city of Kunming. Accommodations are also available in Shilin, if you'd like to visit the area for more than a day trip.
